Keeping Some Clouds Wednesday

WEATHER DISCUSSION

Monday’s storm brought winds gusting up to 65 miles per hour and rain in excess of three and half inches to the coast.  In addition, we saw over ten inches of snow up near Crater Lake, but the snowfall in the Siskiyous was much less.  Mt. Ashland is now reporting only five inches of snow over the past seven days, and according to the ski area’s Facebook page, that was not enough snow for the lifts to resume operations in time for the weekend.

A few showers persisted into Tuesday evening, but rainfall amounts have been much lower than what came Monday.  Brookings picked up an additional almost quarter of an inch, with Medford seeing just over a tenth.  In northern California and the Klamath Basin, amounts were less than a tenth.  While Wednesday will be mainly dry, we will still keep a good bit of cloud cover, especially places further toward the north, like Bandon and Canyonville.  However, Siskiyou County will see a good mix of clouds and sun, rather than the mostly cloudy skies of southern Oregon.  By the afternoon, most locations will have seen some clearing, so highs will be about ten to fifteen degrees warmer than those Tuesday.

High pressure strengthens heading into the end of the week, so afternoon highs will reach the middle and upper 70’s in the Rogue Valley.  That means values about fifteen degrees above average for this time of year…the chance for a stray shower enters the forecast next weekend, but they will be very isolated in nature.  Most of us will stay dry and mild both Saturday and Sunday – a pleasant end to Spring Break after such a cool start!
